SESTRIERE - VIALATTEA

Italian skiing was born in the Turin mountains in November del 1896.

 

The promoter of alpine skiing
italian fu Adolfo Kind, Swiss chemical engineer and mountaineer, resident a Turin. Nel 1896 Adolfo Kind sent to be sent
two pairs of Norwegian skis and after the exercises at Valentino and Monte dei Cappuccini, Kind climbed a Giaveno e reached
the higher hamlets, passing through Prà Fieul to the top of the Monte Cugno of the Alpet. Nel 1899 was the vault
of 3,000 meters: Mount Tomba, above the Moncenisio Lake.
In January of 1906  the first Italian alpine station was inaugurated a Sauze d'Oulx, in the Alta Val di Susa.
Since the beginning of the last century Bardonecchia  turned out to be ideal terrain
for the new sport. Nel 1909 the first championships were organized
Italians of alpine skiing and a ski jump was built. Nel 1935  the town's first ski lift was built.
Nel 1934  the municipality of  was established from scratchSestriere  (born with the name Sestrierès) and after forty years
from the discovery of the new sport the first ski lifts of the municipality were built.
Sestriere as well as being the seat of Turin 2006, is a regular appointment of Alpine Ski World Cup, also hosting i world cup in 1997.
Val di Susa hosted i XX Winter Olympic Games  which took place from 10 to 26 February 2006.
The Olympic Villages of  have been builtSestriere e Bardonecchia, and the Bobsleigh, Luge and Skeleton track of Cesana.
In Val di Susa the Snowboard competitions were held in Bardonecchia, Luge, Bob and Skeleton
on the Cesana-Pariol slope, Biathlon in Cesana-Sansicario, Alpine skiing (women) in Sansicario-Fraiteve, Freestyle in Sauze d'Oulx and Alpine skiing (men) a Sestriere.
Sestriere  the Alpine Skiing of the  took placeIX Paralympic Winter Games  which took place from 10 to 19 March 2006.
Turin hosted nel 2007 the second Universiade after the summer premiere of 1959.
Alpine Skiing and Snowboarding took place in Bardonecchia and Biathlon in Cesana-Sansicario. Sauze d'Oulx

The most important ski area in the Valley is la Milky Way with 400 kilometers of slopes and is located
in the municipalities:  Sestriere,  Sauze d'Oulx,  Claviere,  Cesana-Sansicarius,  Pragelato  (municipality located in the Val Chisone)
Montgenèvre  (municipality located in French territory). Another ski resort is Bardonecchia, with 100 kilometers of pistes, is divided
in two districts: Melezet, Les Arnaud and Colomion (1,300 meters - 2,400 meters) and Jafferau (reaches an altitude of 2,800 meters).
In Val di Susa there are also ski resorts
minor: il Pian del Frais  located at 1,500 meters in the municipality of Chiomonte  has 22 kilometers of slopes.
Val di Susa also offers cross-country skiing trails. Near the Sestriere there are the slopes
di Pragelato (located in the valley floor of the Val Chisone) used for the XX Olympic Winter Games for competitions
cross-country and Nordic combined. The competitions of  were also held in Pragelatoski jumping.
In Bardonecchia there is the Assomont cross-country track located in the Narrow Valley, in Cesana Torinese the track is located in Val del Thuras.
The runway Cesana Pariol, where the Bob, Skeleton and Luge competitions took place in the XX Winter Olympic Games, also hosted the Italian Championship
tobogganing nel 2006 e nel 2007. The facility will host the European Championship
of sledding on January 12 and January 13 2008, the Bobsleigh and Skeleton World Cup from 18 to 20 January and the Luge World Cup

Nel 2018, the rock medal was taken from the Valsusa mountains, an honor designed to reward
the eleven Italian athletes who reached fourth place in their respective disciplines on the occasion of the Pyeongchang Winter Games.[17]

Top slopes

Runway 21 - Sansicario
The track is almost 4 km long, starts as black and is exposed to the sun for the first stretch, the view of Mount Chaberton is breathtaking.
It starts at an altitude of 2619 meters as soon as you get off the Rio Nero chairlift and immediately faces a technical wall that will make the most experienced skiers happy.
The descent continues, widens and becomes first red and then blue.
The landscape changes, you cross the forest and the area is more in the shade.
The path is now blue and the changes in slope and width   allow you to maintain
high the fun. The arrival is at the beginning of the Baby chairlift in the village of Sansicario

Fraiteve Olympique 18 - Sansicario
We are talking about the track used for the Super Giant and women's downhill competitions of the Winter Olympics
2006. Almost 4 km of descents that have all the charm of the Olympic slopes.
Following the high 79, which is a red one, you reach the official start of the Fraiteve Olympique 18 slope.
It is a not too technical black, which alternates sections that are not too steep with walls
a little more challenging like the Colombiere: departure of the Super G.
Fun is guaranteed by the numerous changes in slope and direction.
The track is wide and ends with a more shaded section in the woods until it reaches the village of Sansicario.
Kandahar - Slalom slope Gianni Alberto Agnelli - Sestriere
The name will immediately bring to the minds of fans the 97 World Ski Championships, with the great champions
such as Compagnoni and Tomba.
The track is that of the Men's and Women's Special Slalom of the World Cup.
Adrenaline lovers you can't let it get away!
The start is not very demanding until you reach the start of the races, from there the slope
makes itself felt and accompanies us throughout the descent until the arrival, where the path is again gentler and reaches us
the Cit Roc chairlift.

Kandahar Banchetta Nasi - Sestriere slope
It is considered the most beautiful track in the Milky Way area, where downhill races were held
Torino 2006 men's olympic. We are on Monte Motta at 2800 meters and 914 meters of altitude are waiting for you
that will hit you right in the heart. It's off to a great start down a steep wall that comes to a 63% gradient.
The height gives us an unrivaled view of the Alps.
The track continues past the arrival of the other chairlifts that stop further down, but it does not stop
to surprise, the alternation of walls, jumps, curves, changes of slope and stretches in the woods
they keep the fun high until the arrival which is located in Borgata 1886 meters.

Gran piste Sauze Oulx - The longest track in the Milky Way
Characteristic of this track is its length which allows us to cover a stretch of well  9 kilometers.
It starts from Monte Fraiteve a 2700 meters and you go to cover 1300 meters in altitude.
The track is red with some technical passages. Its length  i changes in slope and passages in the woods will make you love it immediately.
The finish is in Jouvenceaux a 1383 m.

Vallon Cros black slope, Bardonecchia
It starts at 2395 m, after getting off the Vallon ski lift.
Before starting the descent we advise you to stop
a moment and enjoy the view which is something spectacular.
The track is a very fun black one that starts right away with a nice wall
quite challenging and ends with a slight slope that leads to the start of the ski lift.
This part of the area is not very busy and gets the sun late, we recommend it
if your legs aren't too tired,  to enjoy the last runs of the day.
